" Great, I forgot, we gotta get out of town before we can start journeying... "
James scowled as he dragged himself along a path through town. At his feet was a quite more energetic Electrike, having to walk more slowly to stay at her trainer's side. She was hoping for a more... lively trainer, but ah well. She wondered if she would get along with James.
Taima looked up at her trainer, with an expression of curiousity. She always wanted to have the answer to everything and right now she wanted to know why James was so tired.
" ... What? I'm just tired from reaching here, okay? "
James mumbled as his eye caught his Electrike staring up at him, hungry for an answer. Bah, once he was out of this town, he would take it easy...

An elderly woman walked out of a house near James. The morph's Pokememon caught her eye immediately, and a glimmer of excitement crossed her face. So, this strange boy was a trainer, eh?
She went over to James as quickly as her legs could carry her, which was surprisingly fast for a woman of her age. She stopped several feet from him and drew a pokeball from her handbag. "So, how about a battle, boy?" she asked sweetly. "I still have a few tricks up my sleeves," she added with a wink.

Seeing the elderly woman rush up to him, James was amused to see that she could move pretty fast despite her old age. He stopped as soon as he saw her coming, allowing a surprised expression take over his face. Taima took a few steps ahead before stopping, looking back to see why James wasn't moving.
" You bet! No tricks are gonna get past Taima! "
James spoke confidently, holding back any rude comments. Determination sparked in his one eye, while a mere shine from the sunlight could be seen in his glass eye. All in all, James was looking forward to his first battle. The Electrike appeared to be as well, curiously looking at the Pokeball in the woman's hand.

The old woman smiled again, but a look of determination crossed her soft features. She threw the ball into the air, and after spinning around a few times, it deposited a Numel on the ground with a flash of bright red light.
"Come on Cam-Cam, let's show this young trainer how we used to battle in the old days!" the old lady said, looking happy and even a little young again herself.
<My pleasure! So, you may make the first move,> Cam-Cam added with a brimming grin. Obviously both were as excited, or perhaps even more excited, than James and Taima. [/sub]

James simply thought that this would be an easy battle - he didn't really think about all the experience this old lady could have. He did know that Taima was at a bit of a disadvantage against the Numel though, considering Electric type attack wouldn't affect that Ground Pokemon. Oh well, no Thunder Waving for Taima.
" Cool, let's start this battle with a Tackle! "
Came James' first order, gladly accepting the offer to make the first move. He was about to find out how strong Taima really was.
The Electrike observed Cam-Cam once the Pokemon was released from its Pokeball. Hearing the order, Taima put on her game face and prepared to attack. On hurried legs, the Pokemon dashed for the Numel, kicking the battle off with a Tackle.

OoC: Oh my gosh! Sorry that I didn't reply to this earlier!! *hits head*
-----
The Numel made no attempt to dodge, and the old lady didn't seem as if she wanted him to. Taima's tackle hit the Numel forcefully, but the Camel Pokemon didn't even let on how much the attack had hurt. He stood his ground, not sliding an inch from the blow's force.
"Cam-Cam, use Growl!" she commanded. Lower stats, then attack. Lower stats then attack. A tried and true strategy, but perhaps the old woman had something else in mind. She did have a strange look on her face as she watched from the sidelines. The Numel growled loudly, his voice reverberating off of nearby walls. It seemed to carry with the Numels deep voice. [/sub]

( Hehe, don't worry. I haven't been around much myself. Been busy with school starting soon. xX; )
The low and deep Growl ringed within Taima's head, making her a bit weaker and less willful to battle. Cam-Cam was starting to intimidate the poor Electrike! She wondered why the Pokemon appeared uncaring of her Tackle attack. She expected it to knock that Numel over!
" Argh... Taima, just use Tackle again. "
James spoke through clenched teeth, keeping a watchful eye on the elderly woman. Bah, she was starting to get on his nerves! He noticed the strange look upon her face, but wasn't too bothered about it. The fact that her Numel was giving Taima a hard time was his biggest concern.
The Electrike shook her head to rid herself of the irritating echo within her head from the Growl. Determination sparked in her again when she charged for Cam-Cam. She wasn't going to lose! Not in her first battle! Taima kept telling herself this as she went in to Tackle the Numel.

The Numel didn't try to dodge, and he again took the hit. This time, though, a little dist was kicked up when Taima managed to push him back a little bit. He grunted with the effort of digging in his heels.
Cam-Cam knew well his owner's strategy, so she did not even have to say anything more. He smiled mischeviously, and let loose another Growl attack. It was soon evident that the attack was only for cover, because in a moment the Ground-type had kicked up a lot of dirt and rolled off around the Elektrike, well out of her range. [/sub]

Taima wished she could stun that Numel with a Thunder Wave, but she and James knew well enough that the attack was useless against a Ground Pokemon. Furthermore, the Growl once again attacked her attack stat, steadily weakening her.
" Taima, stay put for now! "
James said, watching as the dust wafted into the air. He wouldn't let his Electrike blindly run into the dust cloud, wasting her energy chasing nothing.
So, the Electrike merely stood in place, listening for Cam-Cam. The Growl was distracting, but Taima tried hard to divert all her attention from it. That Numel had to attack sometime...

The old lady winced a little that the Electrike hadn't chased after her Numel. This trainer was wiser than most that she had battled. Of course, it didn't really matter because at the moment she was only judging her opponent's strengths. From what she had seen so far this young man would pose a challenge to her. Yet, it was no use revealing her secret move.
"Alright, Cam-Cam, don't get any closer to that Electrike! Just use another Growl for now!" she commanded, knowing that she would be lucky if the attack worked again.
Cam-Cam followed his trainer's command quickly, his own thoughts running through his mind. He wasn't as young as he used to be either, and those Tackles were taking their toll. He wouldn't be able to staqnd too many more of them. [/sub]

James didn't really think of himself as an intelligent trainer. He wasn't exactly all that smart even. Well, maybe he was, but he refused to show it off, mostly due to lack of motivation. However, he didn't like to lose, so he'd put whatever intelligence he had to use in order to win this.
" Now, follow that Growl! "
James shouted as soon as the woman told her Numel to attack. He figured that Taima could find Cam-Cam if she followed the Pokemon's voice. There was no point in not attacking if all that Numel was doing do was Growl.
By now, the Electrike's attack stat was in a lot of pain, being reduced to almost nothing. Closing her eyes, Taima let the Growl reach her, and once it hit her ears, she turned towards the direction of the noise. Following her sense of hearing, Taima dashed in the direction from where the noise came from, hoping that Cam-Cam would be at the end of it.

The Numel saw Taima rushing at him, and he knew that it was time. He didn't even need his trainer callin out, "Quick, meet the Eledtrike head on!" to know what to do. He curled up into a ball again, and rolled straight for Taima.
His Rollout would absorb most of her Tackle, but he wouldn't be able to avoid taking some damage from it. He rolled, hoping to meet the opponent and for his aim to be true. Lucky thing that his owner had that TM all those years ago. [/sub]

" Oh... crud. "
James gasped when he saw the Numel was coming straight for Taima, using that Rollout attack. The Electrike gasped when Cam-Cam finally attacked as well, colliding with him head-first. She was knocked from the impact, landing on the ground on her side.
" Whoa! Taima! Run! "
Was the only advice that James could offer. That Numel wasn't about to stop that Rollout attack by the looks of it!
The Electrike quickly leapt to her feet, and began to run away. Oh man, if Cam-Cam caught up to her, she'd be flattened! She couldn't Tackle again, unless she wanted another painful head-on collison again.
Seeing a building ahead of her, an idea formed in her dazed mind. She sped up towards the wall of the building, and just before she ran into it, she pivetted to the right, hoping that Cam-Cam would run into the wall... If he was still following her, that is. She wasn't paying much attention, since she was trying to keep as far away from the Numel as she could.

Cam-Cam was indeed folloowing Taima, close behind her tail. The old lady saw Taima's plan, but the Numel couldn't hope to while he was rolling so fast. "Cam-Cam, stop!" she called out, but it was far too late. Only a split-second after she spoke, the Numel rammed into the wall.
It shook violently, and yells were heard from within. Someone poked their head out of a window, and seeing that it was a battle, merely sighed, and withdrew his head smiling.
Meanwhile, Cam-Cam lay on his stomach by the wall, dazed, and shaking all over. He tried to force himself to get up, but to no avail. The old lady wasn't about to just stand there and watch him be attacked again without even being able to defend himself.
She held up a pokeball and called him back. He obliged, though reluctantly. "I forfeit, you win," the old woman said, graciously bowing her defeat. She smiled at James, but her eyes were not focused on him at all. She seemed to be thinking back to when she was just starting out as a trainer.
Taima gains two levels!

Taima skidded to a stop when Cam-Cam collided with the wall, turning her head to see the person inside disregarding the nonsense. She expected that guy to be pretty angry about the situation, but to her surprise he didn't seem to care much.
" Awesome job, Taima! "
James exclaimed when he watched the Numel be recalled by the old lady. The Electrike yipped and jumped up to her trainer, whom gave her a congratulatory scratch on the head. Standing back up, James looked at the old lady and smiled. Well, she just proved that this wasn't going to be as easy as he first thought.
" Thanks for the good battle! "
He remarked, then began to continue down the street. He looked down at Taima as she followed the male at his side, with a proud smile across her face. James couldn't help but smile too - he just picked the best starting Pokemon he could get!
