"Charlie. Please. At least look at the map." Cairo pleaded to the stubborn adolescent who was huffing her way around Nirven town.
"No. I can find my way through this godforsaken town. Christ. Can't someone put up a sign somewhere? Gawd." Charlie whined as she continued stomping around with Cairo safely clung to her shoulder.
"For the love of Ash Ketchum! At least ASK, someone how to get to route one!" Cairo blurted, his patience wearing on the hardheaded teen. Charlie shot him one of her famous glares, and remained silent as she stomped past the pokemart for the eight time. "Whatever. I'll ask Nurse Joy." Charlie relented coldly. Finding the pokecenter with ease, Charlie slipped in through the automatic doors and beheld the pokemon center's simplistic beauty. "Right. Where is the doctor lady?" Sighing, Cairo shook his head in disapproval. She's hopeless...
Spotting the pink-haired woman, Charlie strode over with an air of arrogance about her, with her arms neatly folded over her chest, and her tight frown revealing an irritation inflamed by her disbelieving pokemon. "S'cuse me lady. I need to get to route one." How polite. Cairo thought, desperately trying to escape the embarrassment of such a rude trainer.

Nurse Joy looked mildly surprised at Charlie's abrupt entrance and attitude. She placed a bookmark in the book she had been reading and fixed the new trainer with a bright smile. "Hello! Route One you say? Well, after you leave here, turn right and start walking in a straight path. The exit is just about a mile or two from here. Make sure you go around the houses though," she said helpfully. "I am sure that you will find a trainer or two to battle along the way, if not a wild Pokemon as well," she added, smiling kindly. She held up a finger as if just thinking of something and reached into a drawer in the counter she was standing behind. She rummaged around for a second then came back up with three blue objects. "These should help as well," she said handing the objects to Charlie. You recieve three Rare Candies! Rare Candy- 3 Rare Candy- 3

Listening intently, Cairo smiled as soon as the nurse was finished explaining the very much needed directions. "Thank you Nurse. Your help is very appreciated." Cairo quipped with a kind, and bright smile.
Charlie had been paying little no no attention the entire time, and the only time she was brought back into reality was the sight of the beautiful blue candies. "OHWOW." Charlie belted, her eyes growing large as she took the candies and stuffed them in her bag. "Thanks ma'am. We'll be safe. Kay thanks.. Bye!" Charlie slurred before dashing out the door eager to put Cairo into a battle.
Cairo grunted in displeasure. "You could have been a little more thankful Charlotte." Cairo patronized with a steely glare.
All Charlie offered was a shrug. "Whatever." She was now jogging at a steady pace, and had carefully removed Cairo from her shoulder and slipped him into the somewhat cramped area of her satchel, all of him invisible except for his bright, big eyes. As Charlie continued down the path, she slowed down finally to a sluggish walk. "I wonder where those pokemon are.. Or at least those trainers."

As if in answer to Charlie's question, a very young girl rushed out of a house door. She had seen the Riolu from far off, so she had gathered that this girl jogging through town had to be a new trainer. "Excuse me miss, you want to battle?" she inquired sweetly. She could only have been about seven or so. She had big, brightly colored violet eyes that seemed to just see into ones soul. She carefull grabbed a pokeball from her pocket and held it ready to realease her Pokemon if Charlie accepted her challenge. Opponent: Pachirisu- Lv. 5

Grinning madly, Charlie's eyes lit up as if there were a fire lingering behind her irises of the brightest green. "Well sure sugar. I just want you to know that I won't go easy just cuz' your a kid." Offering a final chuckle, Charlie unloaded Cairo from her knapsack and placed him on the ground. "Right then Cairo. Meet you opponent. Anyways, destroy it." With a lasting flip of her hair, Charlie ordered her command. "Cairo, start off using Endure, just to be safe, and after that, use Quick attack, and knock him into one of those houses!"
Cairo was happy to finally be in a battle, and wanted to prove to Charlie how much he was made of. Then again, if he did faint, Charlie would have backup with the Surskit. "Right." Then, black pupils shrinking into narrowed slits, Cairo let out a shrill cry of battle as he glew red, just in time for the Endure to take it's hold over his body. A half-second later, Cairo took off and shot towards Pachirisu with a speed that allowed the dust on the ground to fly up, biting at his heels.

The girl's violet eyes beamed with excitement when Charlie accepted her challenge. Yay! Someone would actually battle her! Most of the people around here ignored her offers for a battle, getting the first impression that she had no experience as a trainer.
The Pachirisu watched as Cairo performed his attacks with nimble speed, barely noticing that the Riolu was upon it to strike with a Quick Attack. The electric creature squeaked when the foe struck, almost getting knocked off its feet.
" Okay, Pachirisu! Show them your Quick Attack! "
The young girl gave the command with a clap of her hands. Two could play at the Quick Attack game! She would just have to prove to Charlie and Cairo that her Pokemon was better at it!
Brushing some dirt that had attatched itself to the Pachirisu's tail, the rodent snapped back into the battle upon hearing the girl's command. Nodding, the electric Pokemon started to run up to Cairo, then quickly became a blur. Repeating an attack much like the Riolu's, the Pachirisu was determined to show how good its Quick Attack was!

An insane look crossed Charlie face as soon as she realized this was going to be a battle of speed. Perfect. Stepping forward, Charlie threw a fist in the direction at the dashing white blur. "Cairo! Charge her! Then after, kick off from that tree over there and throw your quickest quick attack and throw that thing for a fun trip."
Unfortunately, Charlie's command didn't reach Cairo in time, and he was knocked over backwards by the impact of the Quick Attack. Arising slowly, he dashed over to the tree that Charlie indicated, and shot into a quick attack, and flew at the tree, jumping up, then thrusting off at an enhanced speed, twirling through the air at low altitude and a powerful speed.

The Pachirisu didn't seem to understand what Charlie was planning by telling Cairo to launch off of the tree. Not until it happened, that is. She barely had time to take in the speeding Riolu before the powerfull blow struck her.
The girl winced as she watched her precious Pokemon fly backward and hit the ground, hard. She had to hold herself in check, as she had nearly rushed to the Pachirisu's side. But, even as the Violet-eyed youth was worrying, she was thinking up a plan.
"Pachirisu, stand your ground! Use Bide!" she called as the Electric-type rose to her feet.
The Pachirisu knodded. She believed that she knew what her trainer's strategy was, but she would have to wait and see if she was correct. Immediately her body began to glow red, and she braced herself.

Tensing, Charlie's fists tightened as she grimaced in fear of what she thought was coming. Thoughts raced through her mind as she tried to recall it was whatever that the attack move bide did. Unfortunately, nothing came to mind. "Crap. Well, Cairo. Let's try and distract that little nutter(eh...). Use growl, then after you get it's attention, go in for another quick attack, this time put a little more shoulder into it. Got it? Great. Go!" Charlie belted with a grim expression.
The small pocket monster nodded in understanding, then fierce eyes directed their attention to the tiny electric beast. Rearing back, Cairo released a shrill scream. "RHEE-OH-LU!" The twittery cry emitted from the crypts of his throat. Finished with his call, he had hoped to grab the creature's attention. Without losing any time, the Riolu took a step backwards, then shot off, aiming with an angled shoulder.

The Pachirisu could feel his attack lowering, but ignored that fact. She watched as the Riolu charged at her, not even attempting to get out of the way. She stood there, braced for the blow.
The Quick Attack struck, hard. It sent the small squirrell Pokemon sliding back a few feet. She managed to keep to her feet though, and continued to glow with the Bide. She smiled a little, but did no more than stand there and eye Cairo.

Awestruck that the attack did but little damage, turned to Charlie in desperate hope she would figure out what this attack would do, and how to stop it. Out of fear and common sense, Cairo backpedaled until he was far away from the Pachirisu until he was next to Charlie, a slight pant beginning to shorten his sentences. "Charlie. What's it doing?"
Charlie bit her lip in utter and complete confusion. "Honestly. I don't know. But. When it does strike, I want you do use Endure again. Just being safe. Though I know that you'll be strong. As for our present-time plan, I want you to use rapid fire. Know what that is? Like once you use a quick attack on her and she doesn't budge and you get knocked back a little? Well keep doing that over and over, and over again. Got it?" Charlie then took a breath and allowed a small smile. "You're doing great. Now get your butt movin'!"
Cairo grinned as the words of confidence reached his ear. She believed in him.. there was hope yet. Quickly remembering his task at hand, Cairo sped off to the biding pokemon where he began using a fast succession of quick attacks on the subdued squirrel.

The Pachirisu didn't make a sound, and again didn't even attempt to dodge the fast attacks. The Riolu's Quick Attacks hit, one after another, causing the Pachiris to slide back even more. She just panted, ignoring the bruises appearing all over her tiny white body.
The girl watched carefully, gouging the damage that her precious Pokemon was taking. She was counting each hit, 1, 2, 3, 4... She smiled widely. That was exactly what she had been hoping for. And, if the Riolu did use Endure, it would leave him with only one HP. Easy enough to finish off.
As the fighting aura Pokemon came in for the fifth hit, the girl made her command. "Alright, Pachirisu, unleash the Bide!! Get him while he's so close!"
The Pachirisu nodded, focusing all of the stored energy in a brilliant attack. The red glow radiated out, growing brighter. She charged at the Riolu, trying to use all of the damage he delt against him.

Crap, crap, crap. Think, Charlie. Think. Like a lightning bolt, Charlie's eyes snapped open, fierce gaze cutting into Cairo. "Quick! Charge at her with quick attack!" Charlie belted, hoping to Ho-Oh that her plan would work.
Cairo didn't quite understand, but as the squirrel was a breath's distance away, Cairo shot forward making contact with the furry white rodent. As soon as they were meshed together, Cairo felt the unbelieved force of the attack, and was knocked back in a tumbling roll to Charlie's feet. Luckily, the Endure attack was not in vain. Rising slowly and shakily, Cairo bit his own lip as to force himself to continue on. He was determined to win. It was in his heritage. His blood.
Charlie looked down with a grin, then looked back at the Pachirisu, whom had hopefully taken the quick attack with added force. It made sense if you though about it. With the unimaginable amount of bide power being forced into such a small body as Cairo's, some of the discharge had to be released somehow. Usually the attack would have just left Cairo burning in pain for a good minute. But Charlie made sure to transfer the remaining discharge power into the quick attack. Looking back down at Cairo with a reassuring smile and a quick wink, she lowered herself as to whisper in his ear. "Cairo. I think we can bag this sucker. Now that we know what that attack can do, we don't have to be cautious. Now I want you to use endure again, and use endure after every time she hits you. In between those strikes I want you to use quick attack. We good? Look, I know you're exhausted. But if you win, I'll take up to the pokecenter and buy you anything you want. I know thats a stupid reward. But whatever. It's some sort of motivation. Anyways. Move yer' butt. Go!"
Cairo cringed at the thought of more working. But it would have to be done. Using a quick endure, Cairo took a deep breath before taking off like a rocket to his the target. He was much slower due to his weakened state, but hopefully he still had some umph to defeat this thing.

The Pachirisu, though unleashing Cairo's attacks back at him, had also taken the damage from those attack. The Quick Attack hit her hard, sending her flying back as well. She managed to weakly get to her feet, and stood panting heavily.
The girl cringed as she looked at her precious Pokemon, knowing that she would be extremely lucky to withstand another hit. She watched as Charlie gave the Riolu his orders, and bit her lip as the Pokemon used another Endure and ran at the Electric squirrel.
The Pachirisu was too tired to move out of the path of the fast attack, and the girl knew it. "Hurry Pachirisu, run at him with your own Quick Attack!" she ordered, realizing that her chances of victory were indeed slim.
The small Electric-type ran at the charging Riolu, a grim look on her face. She felt his body come into contact with hers, and that was the last thing that she knew. She flew back onto the ground, unconcious.
The girl looked a little disappointed, and recalled her Pokemon. She stared at the Pokeball for a second, and when her violet eyes met Charlie's they were completely free of tears. The beamed, brighter even than her broad smile.
"That was an awesome battle! Thank you so much!" she said happily. "You and Cairo were great," she complimented serenely.
Cairo gains two levels! He also learns Counter!

As the two creatures collided, Cairo felt the unbearable impact upon is already wounded body. In fact, if he hadn't used endure before he went in for the strike he would have easily ended up the loser in the battle. With a weak smile, Cairo stumbled back to Charlie whom encased him in a thick hug.
"Cairo! OHMYGAWD. You were so great! I never expected that you would be able to win that battle! I'm so proud." Charlie schmoozed, kissing his head softly before slipping him into the comfy expanse of her bag where he would be sleeping until she returned to the Pokemon center.
Looking up from her wounded starter, Charlie's eyes met with the pretty young girl. "Thanks kid. You weren't so bad yourself. I underestimated you," Charlie offered with a bright smile. "and you better keep working on that bide attack. Get some more experience-- maybe we'll meet up again." Charlie added sincerely. "But until we meet up again, you'll have to tell all your friends that you lost to the future Pokemon Champion! Charlie Tucker!" quickly winking Charlie started up again, "and don't you forget it." With those cryptic final words, Charlie gave a final laugh then jolted off to the Pokemon center where she would have Cairo healed.
As soon as she was out of the girl's line of sight, Charlie slowed to a trot where she entered the red roofed building with Cairo in toe. Striding to the counter, Charlie smiled at the Nurse whom had earlier offered her three rare candies. "Hey there Joy. I need by buddy here patched up, and if you have any more, I 'll take s'more rare candies as well." Charlie ended with a mischievous giggle. Looking back to her satchel, Charlie removed Cairo from the pits of her bag, and placed him on the counter. "Thanks."
